Brett’s P90X Journey| Half way there

by admin on March 17, 2010

So I’m in week six of my p90x ordeal, here’s how I sum it up so far.
I 51% love and 49% hate Tony Horton (The p90x guy). OK, I don’t really “hate” the guy, but I’ll admit there have been many times I’ve been cussing him on the TV. I know he’s there to help, but sometimes I wonder if he likes the pain just a bit more than I do.

It’s still kicking my butt, but I feel a whole heck of a lot better than I did before I started.

The program is worth every penny, but if you are going to buy it, follow this advice.

1. Find an accountability partner to help you keep on track. It’s really easy to convince yourself that you can skip today when you are staring 1.5 hours of Yoga in the face. :) It helps to have someone going through it with you.

2. Be realistic and don’t over do it the first week. Do what you can do and be happy with it. Unless you are already in good to very good shape, you probably can’t hang with them right away. The workouts can be pretty tough to get through and there’s a lot of crazy jumping, stretching and pull ups in it. It takes time to get the moves down and build your lungs and muscles.

3. Surround yourself with positive people. Misery loves company and negative people will tell you it’s a waste of time or money. Don’t carry their negative baggage for them, hand it back to them with a smile and move on. You’ll be lifting enough weight in the program, you don’t need that kind of drama.

4. Have a goal. Your goal could be as simple as finishing the program alive, losing a specific number of pounds or becoming a triathlete. It doesn’t really matter what the goal is, just keep moving towards it and you’ll reach it.
